The last few years I've always been nervous when we played Maryland because they always seem to have our number. I was fortunate enough to be working as a second shooter for Clemson that night with staff photographer Rex Brown. Clemson's media group travels pretty heavy with the local newspapers, staff photographer, and the student newspaper so it was great to see a group of friends I haven't seen since I graduated.
It was an exciting game with all the makings of a Clemson letdown. Letting first-time starting quarterback Maryland's
C.J. Brown run and throw all over the defense; an 18 point deficit half-way through the third quarter; and key mistakes on both sides of the ball. We even joked at half, that I brought back the old Tigers. Thankfully this coaching staff and team is different than years past and eventually came back to beat the Terps. Wonder-kid true freshman
Sammy Watkins scored three touchdowns and broke
C.J. Spiller's school record of all-purpose yards in a single game with 345 yards. The defense made the stops when they had to and quarterback
Tajh Boyd really helped the offense come alive.
